How long should you wait for SEO results?

When investing carefully in your digital marketing and SEO strategies, it is common to wonder about the time it takes for the results to show. And since digital marketing has made it easier to track data and results. While you can track the results as soon as you turn on the ads, it is hard to say whether your SEO is working in your favor or showing results already. So how long does it take for the SEO to show results?

Different marketers and SEO experts have different answers to this question, but the most common ones are either 4-6 months or 6-9 months. This means your website will take at least 4 months to drive organic traffic and show SEO results. And some websites might take up to 9 months to drive traffic.

But SEO is not a one-time thing. Only with continued efforts can you see continued results or SEO growth over the months and years. If today you have secured the top position in the SERPs, it might be tomorrow that your competitor will find a weakness in your SEO strategy and have secured your position on the SERPs.

Continued SEO might mean updating your blog, updating your website with the newest SEO guidelines, working on new keywords, etc.

SEO success depends upon what you have aimed for – the goals and the KPI.

Goals – the result you have planned to achieve.

KPI – Metrics that show how close you are to your goals.

KPIs: Visibility, impressions, rankings, etc.

SEO strategies include various sub-categories. Some are instant in driving results, and some take longer. But most parts of the SEO are important for you to rank for all the search terms associated with your business.

To determine your website’s position on the Google SERPs, Google needs time, and some of the things that help in determining are:

  • User’s search intent relevancy to your page
  • Reliability of your website
  • Relevance of your images on the website
  • Speed of your webpages
  • Number and quality of backlinks
  • Keywords used

Quality and relevant information will always be one of the factors that help in ranking your website. This will also help you build authority – and sites with authority rank higher too.

What Factors determine the length of your SEO results?

  1. The competition

Getting on top of the SERPs means outsmarting your competitors, and it is all about the competition whose website appears on top. If you are targeting a low-competition keyword, then maybe it is easier for you to rank and see results. But if you want to use high-competition keywords, it might take you many months to rank closer to your competitors.

  • Authority

If your website is old and has already built the trust factor, a new SEO campaign might take fewer months than a new website with fewer web pages or content. A new domain will prove to be longer to rank any day than its older counterpart. But does that mean an older domain, with some authority build-up, has it easier with SEO? Hardly. But the website’s history plays a great role in ranking.

  • Resources

While you can make efforts to outsmart your competition, you cannot control how it works out for you. You cannot control how long your website is in existence, either. But resources are something you have control over. Resources can be either technical SEO software to get help with SEO or hiring the best SEO specialists in the market. This might come down to the budget – so it is true that sometimes it’s about how much you invest in SEO.

Note that SEO is a combined effort. If your SEO specialists are working hard to find suitably competitive keywords, you will need to have a great content team to work on them and create relevant and high-quality content.
